Implats is a leading producer of platinum group metals (PGMs), structured around seven mining operations and Impala Refining Services (IRS), a refining business.
The Afplats – Leeuwkop Mine is located on the farm Leeuwkop 402JQ on the western limb of the Bushveld Igneous Complex, approximately 15 km west of Brits within the Madibeng and Rustenburg Local Municipalities and the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality in the North West province.
Afplats (Pty) Ltd (Afplats) is a member of the Implats group of companies and holds prospecting rights together with mining rights for a total area of 9 931 hectares (ha) (Implats, 2010). As approved in 2017, the EMP amendment governs the operations at Afplats – Leeuwkop Mine. Although, the mine is currently non-operational the mining right allows the mining of PGMs, silver, gold, nickel, and chrome
